To support our mission, we are seeking for an experienced and strategic Head of Communications to shape and lead its communications strategy, strengthen brand presence, and enhance public engagement, as well as inspire and manage the Communications Team.

Reporting to the Managing Director and serving as a member of the Senior Management Team, the successful candidate will oversee all communications activities, including media relations, digital engagement, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder communications. The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that effective key messages are consistent with AAH’s mission and communicated through the appropriate traditional and digital channels. This is a high-impact role that requires a strategic communicator with a passion for social justice and the ability to translate complex issues into compelling storytelling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, monitor and evaluate the organization’s integrated communications strategy, ensuring alignment with ActionAid Hellas mission and priorities.

  • Oversee all communication activities across digital, media, and editorial channels.

  • Develop and implement awareness-raising communication actions across multiple audiences and channels.

  • Build and leverage high-value media relationships to enhance organizational visibility and credibility.

  • Lead crisis communication planning and reputational risk management.

  • Contribute to fundraising campaigns, providing strategic and operational input.

  • Advise on and support the development of advocacy initiatives.

  • Organise and oversee key organizational events.

  • Develop and oversee the departmental plan, budget, and performance monitoring.

  • Lead, inspire, and manage the Communications Team fostering a high-performance culture.

  • Contribute to strategic decision-making as a member of the Senior Management Team.

  • Represent ActionAid Hellas as an official spokesperson.

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related field.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in communications, PR or media, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Proven experience in strategic communication, media relations and crisis management.

  • Strong working knowledge of the latest trends in digital engagement, social media, content marketing, branding, SEO, content strategy, market research techniques and practices.

  • Experience in multiple forms of persuasive writing including success stories, news, talking points, brand building, media Q&A, and presentations.

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills across multiple formats.

  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking and planning abilities.

  • Leadership experience in managing and developing teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal command of both of Greek and English (additional languages are an asset).

  • Experience in the non-profit sector is desirable.

  • Ability to work in an international environment and availability to travel (nationally and abroad).

  • Full-time, permanent contract based in Athens, Greece.
